Israel’s Tuesday Strikes Killed 12 People in Most Violent Attack Since Ceasefire Agreement

Yesterday, Israeli strikes on the Baalbek district killed 12 people and injured eight others. The attacks hit the areas of Brital, Chmistar, Taria, Nabi Ismail, Khreibeh, Bodai, and Qsarnaba.

According to Megaphone, Baalbek-Hermel Governor Bashir Khodr said that the attacks killed ten individuals in Wadi Faara, and two others in Chmistar.

The Anadolu Agency indicates that Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement over 3,000 times since it came into effect on November 27, 2024, killing 239 people and injuring 551 others.

Till What End?

These recurrent attacks continue to cause significant harm and massive damage to infrastructure across Lebanon, not to mention the continued Israeli occupation of regions in South Lebanon, preventing people from returning to their houses and their properties, including livelihood opportunities.

The claims of Israeli spokespersons and their allies regarding Hezbollah’s disarmament remain vague, intentionally. They serve to provide some sort of narrative legitimacy, while effectively harming innocent civilians.

They also allow the attacks to continue unabated, irrespective of the existence of a ceasefire agreement, and potentially irrespective of whether Hezbollah actually proceeds with disarmament.

The general branding by Israeli spokespersons of random activities in Lebanon as terrorist or suspicious, and the uncritical support shown by Israel’s allies to such narratives, provide Israeli forces with a narrative-based green light to conduct all sorts of destructive operations in Lebanon.

In fact, such a green light has been utilized on a regional level, with Israel repeatedly violating ceasefire agreements and conducting attacks in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran unabatedly.

Internationally, reactions to Israeli’s military approaches continue to escalate, albeit still short of pressuring Israel to put a halt to its genocidal campaign in Gaza and its attacks across the region.
