he United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) released another damning report on humanitarian conditions in Lebanon. The report, “An Enduring Nightmare”, highlights the severe challenges children and youth are facing in Lebanon amid war and economic crisis.
Among its striking findings, the report highlights that an average of seven children a day were killed or injured in the six months following March 2, 2026.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, 4,386 people have been killed in Lebanon since March 2, including 261 children, while 12,407 others have been injured, including 1,056 children.
The report highlights that 770,000 children have suffered psychological distress over the past six months. This distress may stem from a single cause or several simultaneous and compounding causes.
A staggering 436 schools were damaged, leaving around 100,000 children at risk of not having a classroom to study in. Of those schools, 37 were completely destroyed.
The report was released around the same time as another UNICEF publication: a press release highlighting that four in five households in Lebanon are struggling to afford basic necessities.
Continued Attacks and Displacement
The past several weeks have seen continued Israeli attacks and ground operations in southern Lebanon, amid a lack of diplomatic progress and an increasingly protracted crisis.
Yesterday alone, Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on the Wadi Hujair area and the town of Kfar Tebnit. Israeli shelling hit the outskirts of Shaqra and the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoon. Majdal Zoon was also reportedly hit with phosphorus shelling.
The ongoing attacks and systematic destruction of and damage to residential buildings and agroforestry in southern Lebanon are expected to prolong the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.
According to the International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix, 329,686 people were internally displaced in Lebanon as of September 29, 2026.
